Jeroen Steenbakkers of Argaleo was a guest on the podcast Over AI in de Stad (About AI in the City), recorded during the City Deal Morning at the Platform AI & Overheid congress. The conversation focused on how governments can use AI responsibly in spatial planning. The episode is in Dutch.
AI as an assistant, not a decision-maker
AI can combine regulations, maps and other data sources to quickly show which options are possible. The final call remains with the policymaker or administrator. The conversation explores how to safeguard that division of roles in practice: with explainable choices and human oversight. This matches how we develop our AI-driven Digitwin platform: AI supports the work, people decide.
The European AI Act affects the work of municipalities
From August, the addition to the European AI Act comes into force. Governments and suppliers will need to demonstrate more clearly how AI applications work, which data they use and where human oversight is safeguarded. This requires new agreements in development, procurement and management.
European digital autonomy
By building applications on European language models, governments keep more control over data, transparency and legal conditions. This creates a verifiable foundation for AI that fits European public values.
