The municipalities of Bergen op Zoom and Roosendaal are proud to announce the start of the innovation project 'Samen digitaal op weg!'. In a triple helix cooperation with the knowledge institution Logistics Community Brabant and software company Argaleo, new insights and answers to freight traffic related tasks will be sought in the coming year. This initiative aims to make truck movements in the West Brabant West region more transparent, efficient and sustainable.
By using advanced digital technologies and data analysis, the West Brabant West region not only gains a better understanding of current mobility challenges, but also lays the foundation for future-proof policy and infrastructure. In doing so, the growth of business parks and sectors will be measured against the accessibility and livability of the region.
As part of the study, the use of truck parking facilities and the possibilities of placing them in the region will also be examined. The results of this project can serve as a blueprint for other regions in North Brabant. For this research, the West Brabant Region (RWB) has provided a grant from the R&D fund.
three areas of innovation
Understanding freight movements: Together with public and private parties, logistics flows and transport movements are mapped. This leads to standardization of information exchange, enabling safe and efficient data sharing. The result should contribute to a monitoring and evaluation system for freight traffic comparable to existing instruments for passenger mobility.
Insight into regional traffic flow: In cooperation with companies such as Bridgestone, GPS data from light commercial vehicles and heavy trucks is converted into policy-relevant insights. This helps identify bottlenecks and improve traffic flow in the Bergen op Zoom and Roosendaal region.
Understanding transition opportunities: By combining freight movement insights with origin and destination data, scenarios can be developed to manage future freight mobility growth and optimize modal choices. This helps municipalities proactively manage economic development.
"I am proud that we are starting this project with our neighboring community. Understanding more about logistics helps us make infrastructure safer, more sustainable and better. This project shows how collaboration and innovation come together,"
Sanneke Vermeulen, Roosendaal alderman for mobility.
DIGITAL TWIN
The results of the three sub-innovations will be implemented in Argaleo's Digitwin Platform. A Digital Twin is a digital visualization of reality and can be used for practical applications, analyses and policy decisions. The Digital Twin that houses the research results is an existing tool that is already used in the region and is now being expanded to include current insights into local and regional freight movements in West Brabant West.
"I am pleased that we are working with businesses and education on this project. By understanding freight transport, we can solve bottlenecks and improve traffic flows. Digitwin helps us develop scenarios and optimize accessibility."
Councilman Dominique Hopmans (Bergen op Zoom municipality)
