U.D.I. Digital City Program launched

Digital Twinning for complex urban issues

The Digital City Program is the first program of the Urban Development Initiative (UDI) that in collaboration with about 20 partners from industry including Argaleo, government and education starts on February 5th. The program focuses on digital solutions for integrated and sustainable urban planning through digital twinning and virtual reality. In a digital twin, the physical city is digitally recreated. Possible interventions in the real environment can then first be designed digitally to test the effects. These kinds of policy-supporting instruments help to provide an integrated insight into complex urban issues.

It is therefore a good instrument for co-creation and decision-making in the cooperation within government institutions and in the coordination with its partners, but also emphatically contributes to improving resident participation. This method saves time and money and leads to more support for the choices to be made. Projects such as Eindhoven International Knoop XL and Brainport Smart District function as showcases in which digital solutions are applied. Together with the partners and other interested parties, the programme will be further developed over the next six months, after which it will be launched around the summer of 2021 and the implementation phase will start.

Urban Development Initiative

The collaboration in the Urban Development Initiative (UDI), initiated by the municipalities of Eindhoven and Helmond, Brainport Development and the TU/e together with the German Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, has the ambition to provide integrated and innovative answers to complex urban issues in the region. This will contribute to improving the quality of life, work and living, now and in the future. By cooperating on a number of themes with a large number of other parties from the business community and the public and semi-public sector, ecosystems with a high innovative capacity are created. In this way, innovative solutions can be developed more quickly and more efficiently in the region and then scaled up.
