The municipality of Vlaardingen is getting started with our digital twin. In a digital 3D replica of the city, data has been linked to provide insights into the physical living environment. Digitwin will support developments in the city through a pilot and help realize the ambitions defined in the city’s future vision.

Based on its 2020-2040 future vision, the municipality of Vlaardingen is working toward a safe and healthy city where it is pleasant to live, work and enjoy leisure time. Making homes more sustainable and achieving a good mix of buildings and green space plays an important role in this. Additionally, there is ongoing work to further improve access to amenities. Keeping the city livable receives considerable attention, with more space for sustainable mobility, such as cycling and public transport, seen as an opportunity.

‘Digitwin gives us a daily, up-to-date view of the state of the city. The information is presented in a 3D visualization that provides a clear overview. This helps my colleagues better assess the impact of measures and policies on the built environment. This data-driven way of working supports us in realizing the ambitions set out in our future vision. The digital twin is a scalable solution in which we can securely visualize our own data and link it to public data sources,’ says Paul Dekker, Strategic Advisor and Project Manager at the municipality of Vlaardingen.

data-driven operations

In the pilot with Vlaardingen, Argaleo looks forward to jointly optimizing and further developing data-driven 3D operations in the coming period.

Digitwin is currently used by major cities, safety regions and provinces. With Vlaardingen as a new partner, we see that the technology is also suitable and accessible for medium-sized municipalities with digital ambitions,’ says Michel ten Brummelhuis, Project Manager at Argaleo.
